Today's observance of the Juneteenth holiday:

All non-emergency City of Bainbridge offices will be closed Wednesday, June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Wednesday's residential trash route will be picked up on Thursday and Thursday's route will be picked up on Friday.

Due to a train accident the following roads will be closed for the next several hours. Please be careful when looking for new routes...Mlk, Sims St. Independent St and Albany Rd by Stones.

Two local grassroots black community organizations will join forces this year to produce the city-supported 4th Annual Juneteenth Jubilee! Celebration set for June 15th, 16th and 19th at various locations in Bainbridge. We have received questions regarding our boat basin animals Ringo and his friend the emu.: But first a little back story, for years the animal enclosure at the boat basin was home to several goats, emus and a donkey named George, and subsequently, a donkey named Ringo. As time went on, the number of animals dwindled, and we were left with just Ringo and one lone emu. We are thrilled to share that our beloved donkey, Ringo, and the emu have found a new home on a beautiful local farm here in Decatur County! Their new home is a sanctuary for animals, complete with several other donkeys, emus, and horses. With plenty of space to roam and new friends to meet, we are confident they will be very happy! We can’t wait to see them thrive in their new environment!

Join us in Downtown Bainbridge tomorrow for a Kids Marketplace event as our young entrepreneurs showcase their creativity and spirit by selling their handcrafted goods. The outdoor market will be open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

We had a group visit yesterday from the south Georgia chapter of Easter Seals. They were given a crash course in the functions of our mayor and city council and even had time to run through a mock meeting.

May is marked as Mental Health Awareness Month and at this week's city council meeting, Mayor Edward Reynolds presented staff from the Georgia PINES Center with a proclamation noting the importance of the month. Together, we can create a world where mental health is prioritized and supported.

At last night's city council meeting, Mayor Edward Reynolds and city council were presented with the Joe Crine Award from the Decatur County Schools band program. This award signifies the importance of the relationship between the city and the band programs. We count on the band for many of our community activities including Veterans Day, parades and other events and appreciate their recognition of our mutual relationship.

Today, May 15, is recognized as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Let's honor and remember the courageous men and women who have sacrificed for our safety and peace. Bainbridge Public Safety was on hand this morning at the Decatur County Sheriff's Department to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
