The City of Bainbridge has officially embarked on a significant street improvement initiative that will mill and resurface more than 97,000 square yards of city streets across 17 locations throughout the community.
The project represents a continued investment in Bainbridge’s transportation infrastructure and will enhance safety, drivability, and the overall condition of city roadways for residents and visitors alike.
Streets included in the paving project include, but are not limited to:
· Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
· Flint Street
· School Court
· Thronateeska Drive
· Evans Street
· Louise Street
· Simms Street
· Wheat Avenue
· Japonica Drive
· Anderson Street
Additional streets throughout the city are also included as part of the 17-street improvement effort.
The milling portion of the project is expected to exceed $230,000, with both milling and resurfacing costs being funded through Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) and Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds. These funding sources allow the City to make critical infrastructure improvements without relying on property tax revenues.
To put the scope of the project into perspective, 97,000 square yards is equivalent to approximately 874,000 square feet—an area larger than 15 football fields, including end zones. The resurfacing effort will provide smoother travel surfaces, extend the lifespan of city streets, and reduce future maintenance needs.
“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the infrastructure that residents depend on every day,” said City Manager Roy Oliver. “Investments in our streets not only improve transportation and safety but also contribute to the overall quality of life in our community.”
Work will be completed in phases, and motorists are encouraged to use caution and be mindful of construction crews and temporary traffic adjustments in affected areas. Work areas will be marked with signage.
