City Begins Wheat Avenue Storm Water Improvement Project with Funding Support

The City of Bainbridge is pleased to announce the start of the Wheat Avenue Storm Water Improvement Project, a neighborhood infrastructure effort aimed at enhancing stormwater drainage and reducing flooding risks in the area. This project is a jointly funded project via a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Department of Community Affairs and a low interest $1,500,000.00 Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan administered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority. These grants and loans help communities improve infrastructure and quality of life.

The project includes the installation of approximately 2,800 linear feet of storm drainage pipes, along with new concrete storm structures, curbing, and asphalt replacement along Wheat Avenue. These improvements are designed to manage stormwater more effectively, improve roadway safety, and enhance the overall quality of life for local residents.

Construction officially began on June 23, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed within 180 days, depending on weather and construction conditions.

“The Wheat Avenue Are drainage improvements represent a major step in addressing long-standing water runoff concerns in this neighborhood,” said Gabriel Menendez, City Engineer. “Thanks to the support of the CDBG program and GEFA, we’re able to move forward with this vital infrastructure upgrade.”

The City appreciates residents’ cooperation and patience throughout the construction period and will provide updates as the project progresses.
