Meet Our Mayor and Council:

 

Mayor:  Mark Harrell ( At Large)

Mark served for 12 years on the city council's at-large Post 1 before being elected Mayor in 2006.  A native of Bainbridge and 1982 graduate of Bainbridge High School, Mark attended Florida State University and graduated in 1986 with a degree in finance.

 

In 1986 he began employment with Southwest Georgia Oil Company, Inc. and served as Vice-President until 1999.  In 1999 Mark decided it was time to move into a different career direction and he formed the Warren & Harrell Company, later to be renamed Warren, Harrell & Brannen Company. Mark served this company as a financial advisor. Always having an interest in real estate and development, in 1999 Mark also started developing real estate.  In 2002 he decided to go full-time into real estate development and left the investment advisor business.

 

Mark served as Rotary President in 1997 and is a past member of YMCA Board of Directors.  He was in the first class of Decatur 21st and a member of the 1996 Leadership Georgia class.  He currently serves on the First United Methodist Church Administrative Board, Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, Bainbridge College Foundation Board, Park Avenue Bank Board, and the Decatur County Board of Health.

 

Mark and his wife Lauren have three children - Tanner, Katie, and Ella. They are members of the First United Methodist Church.

 

 

Councilman: Edward Reynolds (At Large, Post 1)

A native of Bainbridge, Edward graduated with honors in 1982 from Bainbridge High School. After graduation he attended the University of Georgia followed by pharmacy school at Auburn University School of Pharmacy where he earned his bachelor of science in Pharmacy in 1989. In 1989 he returned to Bainbridge to work with his father, former Mayor B.K. Reynolds, at Bainbridge Pharmacy. In 2000 he purchased the pharmacy from his father and continues to provide pharmaceutical care and services to the citizens of Bainbridge.

In 2006, Edward ran unopposed for the Post 1 At-Large seat vacated by Mark Harrell as he competed for mayor.

 

He has served as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in founding the Youth Leadership Program for Decatur County. Edward was chosen as the Decatur County "Man of the Year" in 2003. He is a 1997 participant in Leadership Georgia and served on the Leadership Board as a trustee for three additional years. He has served on the Gilbert H. Gragg Memorial Library Foundation Board as well as the Memorial Hospital Foundation Board.  He is a member and past lay leader of the First United Methodist Church and has been a long standing member of the Bainbridge Rotary Club. He is also currently serving on the Bainbridge-Decatur County Development Authority, the local board of the Regions Bank, and is chairman of the city Tree Committee.

 

He and his wife, Tonya, a teacher at John-Johnson Elementary School, have 3 children - Griffin, Hudson, and Mary Mercer, who all attend Decatur County schools.

 

 

Councilman:  Joe Sweet (District A, Post 2)

Alderman Sweet was first elected to the City Council in November 1985 and has served five terms on the council. Alderman Sweet resides at 606 Clay Street. 

 

 

Mayor Pro Tem:  Greg Waddell (District B, Post 3)

Alderman Waddell was first elected to the City Council in November 2001.  Alderman Waddell resides at 2022 Lake Douglas Drive. 

 

 

 

Councilman:  Luther Conyers, Jr. (District A, Post 4)

Alderman Conyers was first elected to the City Council in November 1977.  Alderman Conyers resides at 1308 Carter Street. 

 

 

 

Councilwoman: Roslyn Palmer (District B, Post 5)

Council member Roslyn Palmer was re-elected to her sixth term in the November 2007 election.  A Bainbridge native, she is a graduate of Bainbridge High School and the University of Georgia, where she received an ABJ degree in journalism/public relations. After college she returned to Bainbridge and worked at The Post-Searchlight and WAZA radio for several years. 
 
Roslyn has been an active member of the community for many years, serving as president of the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce and the Bainbridge Junior Woman's Club.  She served on the Library Board and the Bainbridge High School Parent Council.  In 1996 she was very involved with the Olympic Torch Relay and served as a volunteer speaker in area schools during that time.  She is a graduate of Leadership Decatur County and Leadership Georgia's class of 1992.  She and her husband Jack own Jake's Pawn Shop in downtown Bainbridge, a business started by her parents, the late Jake and Bella Wolffe, in 1949.  As a downtown business owner, she was instrumental in getting the Main Street program started in Bainbridge, and won a statewide award from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for her efforts.  
 
She is very active in Temple Beth-El.  Roslyn has been active in the Georgia Municipal Association and served as state policy committee chairman for the community development committee. She has also served on several GMA committees during the years she has served on city council, one of them an appointment to the Georgia Downtown Association's Board of Directors. She served as a member of GMA's youth task force in 2002-2003.  She and Jack have a daughter, Mycla.
 

  

Councilman: Dean Burke (District B, Post 6)

Dr. K. Dean Burke attended elementary school at Elcan King while living in Bainbridge as a child. His family relocated to Donalsonville where he graduated from Seminole County High School. After graduating from Georgia Southwestern College and the Medical College of Georgia, he returned to Bainbridge in 1985 and opened a solo private practice. In 1987 he was joined by Dr. Don Robinson. Delivering babies for over 20 years, his practice is now limited to office and surgical gynecology.

Dr. Burke was elected to the City Council in 2007.  He is actively involved in the community to include membership in the Bainbridge Rotary Club, a member and former director of the Chamber of Commerce, and he served as a member and Chairman of the City's Planning and Zoning Commission until his recent election to the City Council. He is a member of the Hospital Authority and served as Chief of Staff at Memorial Hospital and Manor. He has also served on the YMCA Board, the Bainbridge College Foundation, and various roles with the Boy Scouts of America.

 

Dr. Burke is married to Thea and is father of two grown children, Will and Annalee.  He is a member of the First Methodist Church of Bainbridge and his hobbies include swimming, cycling, reading, and sailing. He lives at 1906 Legette Drive and can be contacted via phone at 243-0710.
