The Peace Wall
by Chrissie Orr, students, faculty, administrators and other community members May 2, 2000

Prepare to drive or take a long walk to enjoy this mural. It is located on the wall of the Miller County Middle School on Perry Drive. The Peace Wall was a true community endeavor. More than 300 people, including 131 high school and middle school students, created this mural as a statement against school violence and to promote peaceful resolution. It is a glorious burst of color, featuring a number of motifs, including doves, fish, water lilies, pine trees and other indigenous plants and medallions depicting the students' visions of peace. The images are encompassed in a perimeter of hands designed by sixth-graders. This mural sparked a statewide project: "Let there be peace on Earth." |
