Public Safety Hiring Firefighters

The City of Bainbridge Public Safety Department is accepting applications for the position of Fire-Fighter (full-time). Public Safety Fire Officers works 12 hour shifts with every other weekend off. Officers are scheduled on duty a total of 84 hours every two weeks.

Pay for a certified officer (NPQ Firefighter 1 & NPQ Hazmat Operations) is $14.11 an hour.

Pay for non-certified officer pending certification is $13.43 hour.


Applicant Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Must successfully pass pre-employment background investigation

• Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and physical agility screen.

• Must successfully complete the Georgia Fire Academy curriculum if uncertified.

• Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of firefighting duties, evolutions, and operations.

• Demonstrated skill in the effective and safe use of firefighting tools, apparatus, equipment, and communication devices.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

• Must maintain a valid State of Georgia driver’s license to include a Georgia Class A or B operator’s license.

• Must be physically capable to perform strenuous work under hazardous conditions, for lengthy periods of time with exposure to smoke, fire, and other hazardous chemicals.

• Must be physically capable to climb ladders and work at heights in excess of 100 feet.

• Must maintain a current CPR card.

• Availability to be reached by telephone at all times.

• Must be able to perform all essential duties listed on the current job description.
